Jerry Uelsmann: Untitled Reviewed & ArtHouston 2014 Opening

Posted on Jul 10, 2014

Our current exhibition, Jerry Uelsmann: Untitled, was recently reviewed in the local Houston news and entertainment weekly, Houston Press. And what a stellar review it was. In the review, author Jim J. Tommaney gives insight into how Jerry creates his work while focusing on several pieces from the exhibition and how they create "a world of haunting beauty, which we are welcome to enter and savor."  Jerry subtlety weaves mystifying narratives throughout all his images creating work that forces viewers to slow down and carefully look at the details, considering what each element in the piece may mean and how they relate to one another. Jerry's work requires time to fully appreciate; his "exhibition is elaborate and complex, and one not to be missed, but please leave time to study and ponder Uelsmann's art — he deserves it, and you will be rewarded." Couldn't have said it better myself Mr. Tommaney! To read the entirety of the review please click here.

ARTHOUSTON 2014

In our second bit of news, Catherine Couturier Gallery will again be participating in ArtHouston this year for ArtHouston 2014. We will be holding a second opening for Jerry Uelsmann: Untitled, Saturday July 12, 6-8 PM. As this opening is in conjunction with ArtHouston, Saint Arnold's Brewing Company will have a tasting tent, DJ Jason McElweenie will be spinning the latest hits, and a few food trucks will be parked in front of Gallery Row for all attendees to enjoy throughout the evening.

Founded in 1979 as “Introductions” and changed to “ArtHouston” in 1998, ArtHouston has grown from a twelve gallery art-walk to an almost city-wide exhibition of talent. This year, we are excited to announce participation from over 30 local galleries, all hosting events Friday, July 11th – Saturday, July 12th, 2014. For more information please click here.
