Renate Aller ICP Spotlight & Lannan Foundation Exhibition

Posted on Aug 9, 2014

Renate Aller has had a great summer thus far and things don't seem to be slowing down for her in the slightest. Recently she moved into her new loft/studio space in New York and now she is part of the Lannan Foundation's exhibition, DESERT SERENADE: Drones, Fences, Cacti, Test Sites, Craters and Serapes, in addition to being highlighted in an International Center for Photography Member Spotlight.

Renate is currently at the Lannan Foundation in Santa Fe for the opening reception of the exhibition today, August 9, from 5 - 7PM. Desert Serenade, on view July 12 - August 31, 2014, is an exhibition of painting, photography, mixed media and works on paper from the Lannan Collection featuring the work of Renate Aller, Subhankar Banerjee, Tom Miller, Trevor Paglen, Victoria Sambunaris, James Turrell, and Emi Winter. The subtitle alludes to the subject or to a reference found in the artwork celebrating the beauty of deserts in North America and the often outrageous occurrences found there.

Renate's ICP Member Spotlight was included in the center's latest email newsletter and features a short interview with the artist. The interview, only about 8 questions, is a quick read, giving a little insight into how Renate sees the world and what influenced the direction of her work. One question and answer stands above the rest in the interview, though. When posed with the question of what inspires her, Renate reponds with a simple, one sentence answer that sums up her work perfectly, "The moment between sound and silence".
