Catherine Couturier Gallery is thrilled to announce Sign of the Times, an exhibition featuring new work by Houston artist Molly Block opening Saturday, October 19th, from 4pm - 6pm. The exhibition celebrates vintage signage and aims to capture the stories of these unique relics of Texas' history. Block is known for capturing signs that are iconic to Texas’ landscape through her lens, such as Shipley Do-nuts's neon sign in Texas Favorite, 2016. Sign of the Times will feature Texas Favorite and other vibrant images of signage found along roads of Texas and the United States. Molly’s work will be featured in Texas Highways magazine’s December issue.

Block says of her work, “My focus in photographing vintage signs stems from my appreciation for each sign's uniqueness and the craftsmanship involved in making each sign; each sign truly is a work of art. Weathering and businesses changing hands or closing altogether are among the factors that affect historic signage, so continuing to document what still stands today remains of interest to me." Her photographs capture the signs as they are in that moment, as they still stand, serving to preserve Americana culture and the stories of the past.
